  • A local marathon runner launched the NoMi fundraiser to honor her friend Lou Ann Bogart, who would have celebrated her 67th birthday this month—she is remembered for showing how precious time can be.   • Wildlife biologist Vince Cavalieri reported that Great Lakes piping plovers rose from 12 pairs in 1990 to 88 pairs this year, with 34 pairs nesting at Sleeping Bear Dunes.   • Traverse City officials said stop signs in the rural area were knocked down—believed to be from vandalism—putting drivers at risk and urging anyone who sees a missing sign to call 911—warning that tampering can lead to felony charges—while crews work to replace them as soon as possible.  Traverse City Record-Eagle
