- ➤ At a quarterly meeting held at the Traverse City Golf and Country Club on October 10, more than 100 Women Who Care members from Grand Traverse and Leelanau County awarded Jubilee House over $15,000—$10,000 from members and a $5,000 matching grant from the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation to support its work as the region’s only day shelter for the unhoused. Traverse City Record-Eagle
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Starting today, Elk Rapids Cinema shows first-run feature films every weekend at 1 p.m., 4 p.m., and 7 p.m.—the theater will also offer free classic films on Monday through Thursday starting October 13th. UpNorthLive
- ➤ Traverse City’s Art of Recovery exhibit, now in its 18th year, is calling for local artists from Crawford, Grand Traverse, Leelanau, Missaukee, Roscommon and Wexford to submit work that fights mental health stigma—entries are open for eligible artists in these areas. Traverse City Record-Eagle
- ➤ The Northern Michigan Dance Festival will bring dance and live music to Traverse City as local and national groups unite—featuring performances by the Traverse City Dance Project, Joffrey Ballet of Chicago, and Grand Rapids Ballet Company—and will showcase a mix of jazz, ballet, and contemporary styles. 9&10 News
- ➤ The Dennos Museum Center will host its 26th Annual Holiday Artist Market on November 7 and 8 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., where visitors can shop for one-of-a-kind gifts from Michigan artists. - ➤ Traverse Connect has opened registration for its annual economic summit, which will be held on Nov. 3 at the Grand Traverse Resort & Spa to give local businesses and individuals a half-day of economic forecasting—networking, panel discussions, and a keynote address are part of the program. - ➤ A first-of-its-kind training fair took place in Traverse City when the Northern Michigan Attainment Collaborative hosted a Training Fair Open House Thursday evening at the Networks Northwest Conference Center—showing local workers and employers training opportunities in the region. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Michigan DNR collected fish eggs at the Little Manistee Weir this season despite low river levels and summer heat. Returns improved sharply—rising from around 1,000 eggs in 2015 to about 6,000 in recent years—boosting hopes for a healthy fishing industry along Lake Michigan. UpNorthLive

- ➤ Sports Overtime Week 7 produced six game results—Greenville won 21—0 over Cadillac as the game marked the 50th anniversary of KISS’s visit, Pine River beat Manton 34—30 for its fifth straight win, Charlevoix edged Mancelona 15—12, Traverse City Central beat Bay City Western 47—21, Brimley defeated Rapid River 40—0, and Rudyard won 28—20 over Mesick.
