- ➤ Local leaders stressed the need for lasting solutions to chronic homelessness as colder weather sets in. Safe Harbor—open throughout the summer—will resume serving nightly meals and offer weekend daytime services starting Wednesday, Oct. 15. Traverse City Record-Eagle

- ➤ Traverse City cannabis producers and sellers are fuming over a new tax on sales from growers to sellers that some say could hurt the industry—Northwoods Cannabis CEO Brett Etengoff said the tax was part of Michigan's new road funding deal and blindsided him. Traverse City Record-Eagle

- ➤ The Grand Traverse Conservation District and The Pepple Pups will celebrate Earth Science Week & National Fossil Day tomorrow from 5:30–7:30 p.m. at Boardman River Nature Center, 1450 Cass Road—registration is required for this free event featuring fossil activities and discussions on energy resources for our future. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Sarah Lee Sullivan began her career in finance and built a bookkeeping business in 2019 before her passion for mental wellness led her to a new path. The Alliance selected her for a leadership role in mental health care — she said her experience as a manager and executive prepared her well for the position. Traverse City Record-Eagle
- ➤ A new MDHHS study found that greater access to naloxone reduced overdose deaths by 36% statewide, preventing over 1,650 deaths from 2017 to 2024. The harm reduction program distributed over 1.3 million free kits (across 37 agencies at more than 100 sites) and led to nearly 34,000 overdose reversals, ranking Michigan among the top five states for reductions. 9&10 News
- ➤ Susan Odgers, a teacher at Northwestern Michigan College who has used a wheelchair for 49 years, was diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer in 2021 during COVID-19 and has had surgery and radiation while starting a drug treatment that may last 10 years—she also battles debilitating side effects and bone infections.
