Good morning, Traverse City. Here's your local news at a glance for Wednesday, the 15th of October.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A recent non-profit report found that Leelanau County faces a gap of over 2,000 housing units, forcing local firefighters to live far from work as rising home prices and high rental costs push them out. Glen Lake Fire Chief Bryan Ferguson warned that the expensive housing market limits new recruitment and leaves many staff living 10–15 miles away or more—reducing their ability to respond quickly.  UpNorthLive
  • Yesterday, the twice-yearly Mid-Michigan Honor Flight left Cherry Capital Airport with 76 veterans and their guardians for Washington, D.C. to visit memorials—organizers revised the itinerary due to a federal shutdown and they will return Wednesday night with a welcome home ceremony.  UpNorthLive
