ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Traverse City scientists are halfway through building Fishpass, a system that helps lake sturgeon and longnose suckers reach spawning grounds while blocking invasive sea lamprey. The Great Lakes Fishery Commission said the project aims to protect native species — a plan still under study.  Traverse City Record-Eagle

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Dylan Harrington, known as a Cadillac man, has petitioned to build a North Fox Island monument—he joined the Navy for a sense of purpose but found his service experience very different.  Traverse City Record-Eagle

  • Registration is open for the North American Vasa festival (celebrating its 50th anniversary) in Traverse City. The event will be held Feb. 14-15 at Timber Ridge Resort and will feature classic and freestyle races, with Hickory Hills as an alternate venue if low snow.  Traverse City Record-Eagle
