- ➤ Cherryland Cares awarded $15,000 in grants last quarter to four nonprofits in northwest Michigan to help cancer patients and improve food assistance. The funds will let the Leelanau County Cancer Foundation provide non-medical care, Food Rescue support a mobile app in Traverse City, 5Loaves2FishNMI buy a freezer, and Acme Christian Thrift Store and Food Pantry purchase food supplies. 9&10 News
- ➤ Traverse City crews are shifting lanes and closing sidewalks (affecting W.15th Street’s 100–500 blocks and parts of S. Union, Cass and W. Ninth Streets) to replace private galvanized water lines once hooked to lead while Team Elmer’s and the Water/Wastewater Maintenance Division have set the project to finish by Oct.24 (project end date). - ➤ Traverse City will host a volunteer-run film festival next spring organized by Old Mission Culture Company; all-access weekend and day passes are on sale now at early-bird prices until Dec. 31. - ➤ The VOCES8 choral ensemble performed and worked with students from Traverse City Central, Traverse City West, Interlochen Arts Academy and Leland Public Schools on Tuesday morning at Mission Hill Church in Traverse City—this Grammy-nominated group led both a rehearsal and an evening concert. A small craft advisory is in effect for Grand Traverse Bay and nearby waters until 8 PM Thursday—boaters are urged to avoid hazardous conditions as gusts may reach 30 kts and waves could hit 6 feet. - ➤ The Garden Theater in Frankfort is hosting a free screening of Escanaba in da Moonlight and a venison chili cook-off on Nov. 13. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the film starts at 7 p.m. — local chefs will offer venison recipes while guests vote for their favorite dish. 9&10 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The roundabout at the M-72/M-22 intersection reopened after being closed on Oct20 for repaving. MDOT said most paving was done on Monday but poor weather delayed final work—additional paving is scheduled once conditions improve. UpNorthLive
- ➤ Restaurants in Traverse City canceled D-J Bingo nights after state regulators warned that the free game might be seen as illegal gambling—restaurant owners will meet this week to decide how to handle the issue while deejays defend the event as a way to bring people together. 9&10 News
- ➤ Following the Emmet County Board of Commissioners' approval, Pellston Regional Airport will get new snowplows and a de-icer from Western Star and M-B Companies to boost runway safety and efficiency—new equipment including a sweeper, broom and snow blower is expected next week as the airport updates runway markings and tests for PFAS. - ➤ The City of Traverse City has launched a new interactive map—dividing the city into six zones—to organize its fall leaf pickup program that started on Oct 20 on the west side, and residents are advised to check their zone and prepare loose, biodegradable leaves for collection according to the guidelines. 9&10 News
- ➤ As the federal shutdown enters its 19th day, local food pantries are preparing for possible SNAP funding cuts even though Michigan has not warned that November benefits will be affected.
