  • Jamaican workers at local resorts feel deep worry as Hurricane Melissa impacts their families in Jamaica while they struggle to make contact with loved ones. Resort managers at Grand Traverse Resort & Spa and Mission Point Resort are keeping the workers safe—ensuring they stay sheltered until they can safely return home.  UpNorthLive
  • A portion of the Boardman Lake Loop Trail from the Hull Park pedestrian bridge to the restroom remains closed until November 14 — work on the Hull Park Boathouse roof and solar panel installation is underway in preparation for a city solar project funded by a $1,685,479 grant.  Traverse City Record-Eagle
  • A Traverse City couple who helped during the Flint water crisis and Hurricane Maria is planning to aid Jamaican communities hit by Hurricane Melissa. ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A homeowner on Old Mission Peninsula quickly contained a basement fire on Hedeen Road Tuesday—firefighters noted that working smoke detectors alerted the resident in time and prevented further damage, and no injuries were reported.  UpNorthLive

CULTURE NEWS

  • 9&10 News will mark the 50th anniversary of the Edmund Fitzgerald sinking with special coverage starting November 7th at 4 p.m. that features a half-hour tribute called The Last Voyage: Remembering the Edmund Fitzgerald and a follow-up storm segment at 4:30 p.m., with all-day remembrance ceremonies and a live memorial service on November 10th.  9&10 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Local food aid groups warn that many residents in Northern Michigan will face hunger this weekend as SNAP benefits will stop on Nov. 1 due to the government shutdown. Traverse City Rep. Betsy Coffia said officials may use money from the Rainy Day Fund to temporarily fund SNAP—an effort aimed at easing the impact for households before more families go without.  9&10 News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Frankfort broke its losing streak with a score of 25 to 17, 25 to 23 and 25 to 11 over Lake Leelanau St. Mary on Senior Night Tuesday evening and will use that win to boost their postseason hopes. Central Lake spikers swept Ellsworth, adding to a busy night in prep sports.  Traverse City Record-Eagle
  • TC Central and TC West will play in back-to-back playoff games as both teams get ready for a tough battle—each hoping to win a key matchup. The games will test both teams' skills and add a chapter to their ongoing rivalry.  Traverse City Record-Eagle
