- ➤ Fishtown Preservation Society is raising funds to restore the Van Raalte House—an important landmark above the Leland Dam—to create a hub for educational programming and displays. - ➤ Downtown Traverse City will host Shop Your Community Day on Nov 8 and the Light Parade on Nov 22. Nearly 40 local businesses will donate 15% of every sale to one of 30 nonprofits on Nov 8, and the Light Parade will feature Santa’s arrival, a tree lighting at 6 p.m., and road closures starting at 3 p.m. for safety. 9&10 News
- ➤ The Iceman Cometh Challenge will take place next week as fundraisers work to hit a $150,000 goal for trail upkeep. The Festival Foundation has pledged a $50,000 challenge match—supporting maintenance and facility improvements on the Vasa trail network through Nov. 8. 9&10 News
- ➤ The Area Agency on Aging of Northwest Michigan is hosting a public conversation today at 9 a.m. to discuss the needs of older adult residents and caregivers—under the Older Americans Act, Michigan Department of Health and Human Services will develop a plan to address challenges facing seniors and their families. - ➤ Northwestern Michigan College launched a new program that teaches students to use three-dimensional concrete printers — the first course of its kind in the country. The innovative technology from Detroit lets students print quick-drying concrete walls to help build affordable housing and address local labor shortages. 9&10 News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Veterans in Wexford County expressed concern on October 29 when both service officers resigned, leaving worries about future support. County leaders said they kept services running by offering weekly help while accepting applications through Monday—planning to decide on new hires at the committee meeting in early November. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Munson Healthcare and Mary Free Bed have partnered to help breast cancer survivors move forward with their care.
