ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A patient in a medical crisis on the VASA single-track trail in Whitewater Township was rescued by U.S. Coast Guard airlift and Whitewater Township Fire Department responders on Thursday — the rough terrain made access by ground vehicles nearly impossible.  UpNorthLive

ECONOMY NEWS

  • JetBlue landed its inaugural flight from Boston at Cherry Capital Airport on Thursday, making it the seventh airline to serve the airport. TVC officials welcomed more than 80 passengers shortly after noon with gift bags—slices of cherry pie from the Grand Traverse Pie Co. and other prizes.  Traverse City Record-Eagle

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Senior Brady Tharp, the valedictorian of Traverse City St. Francis’ Class of 2025, graduated on May 23 and will begin college after a short summer break—he hopes to follow in his father's footsteps.  Traverse City Record-Eagle

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Traverse City Streets Division will shift lanes on N. Union Street just north of Front Street at 6 a.m. Monday, June 9 to complete asphalt repairs in the southbound lanes with work ending Friday, June 13 — all traffic will be directed to the east side, which may cause disruptions for pedestrians, bicyclists and vehicles.  Traverse City Record-Eagle
  • The Grand Traverse County Jail lobby is closed until further notice because buckling tiles were found in the lobby and bathrooms—corrections office specialist Jo Ann Lenden discovered the issues yesterday and alerted county officials and the sheriff’s office.  Traverse City Record-Eagle

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Boyne Mountain Resort will revive its Yoga in the Sky event on select Saturdays this summer and fall, featuring a 30-minute guided hike and a 45-minute yoga session atop SkyBridge Michigan from 8 to 10 a.m. at $45 per person—attendees should wear closed-toe shoes, bring water and sunscreen—and the resort will offer Peaks & Poses Sunrise Yoga on select Sundays from 5 to 7 a.m. at $35 per person—guests must book early as space is limited.  9&10 News
  • Crystal Lake Alpaca Farms has over 60 alpacas that are sheared yearly for their hypoallergenic fibers — softer than wool and used to make yarn for mittens, hats and headbands in the farm boutiques. Megan Huiskens from 9&10 visited the farm and met several of the animals.  9&10 News
