CRIME NEWS

  • A 64-year-old Traverse City woman was stabbed at an apartment complex in Garfield Township on July 22 at 6:31 p.m. and taken to Munson Medical Center with (non-life-threatening) injuries as detectives continue to investigate the incident.  9&10 News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Cherry Capital Airport logged 379,151 travelers in the first six months, with its June total of 58,652 rising 18.7% from June 2024—this record pace will drive the airport to nearly 1 million travelers by year's end.  Traverse City Record-Eagle

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State officials announced on Wednesday that they will replace the pedestrian bridge over U.S. 31 in East Bay Township despite obstacles—funding and site location challenges. The decision follows months of public outcry, a recent pedestrian death, and appeals from elected officials.  Traverse City Record-Eagle
  • Residents and business owners in East Bay Township will get a chance to weigh in on a plan to create a Corridor Improvement Authority for the U.S. 31 North corridor at an open house on July 30—one session will be from 4 to 6 p.m. at East Bay Township Hall (1965 N. Three Mile Road) and a second from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Hopscotch Brick Oven & Taproom. The event follows a nine-month planning process with over 700 community members and will discuss improvements like new pedestrian crossings, ongoing sidewalk maintenance, and corridor beautification.  9&10 News
